Day 2 of the SIMA Symposium 2025, and was an other fantastic experience that truly showcased the future of the snow and ice management industry. The day kicked off with a compelling presentation by Lisa Rose, who shared invaluable insights on how to prepare for non-snow events in order to mitigate liability risks. Her practical tips resonated with many attendees, emphasizing the importance of proactive strategies in our line of work.

Later, Craig Sandmann took the stage to introduce some exciting advancements in technology aimed at reducing chloride use in deicing processes. His discussion on chloride-reducing technology highlighted the industry’s shift towards more sustainable practices, which is crucial for environmental stewardship.

One of the highlights of the day was the exploration of innovative products that are reshaping our industry. I had the chance to see Hilltip’s HTrack in action, a innovative system that offers real-time tracking for snow and ice management operations.

Additionally, Boss’s SmartTouch+ controller was showcased, demonstrating how technology can enhance efficiency and precision in our work.

Equally important were the conversations that took place during networking sessions. I engaged in stimulating discussions about the role of artificial intelligence in snow removal and the potential for greater collaboration within the industry. These conversations underscored the collective commitment to improving our practices and embracing new ideas.

Overall, Day 2 of the SIMA Symposium was filled with game-changing concepts and a sense of camaraderie among industry professionals. I left feeling inspired and eager to implement the knowledge gained into my own practices.

Stay tuned for more in-depth explorations of these transformative ideas as we continue to push the boundaries of innovation in snow and ice management.

Keynote Speakers and Insights

The SIMA Symposium 2025 was an enlightening experience, bringing together industry professionals to discuss the critical topic of snow management. Among the highlights were two keynote speakers whose insights resonated deeply with me.

Lisa Rose delivered a compelling presentation focused on preparing for non-snow events to mitigate liability risks. Lisa emphasized the importance of clear contracts and proactive communication with customers, which is crucial for managing expectations and minimizing risks. She provided real-world examples of real-life slip-and-fall stories that could have been avoided with better planning, reinforcing our collective responsibility for higher snow & ice service quality.

Craig Sandmann’s session on reducing chlorides through innovative tracking technology was equally impactful. He illustrated how we can lessen our environmental footprint by utilizing real-time monitoring systems. This technology not only enhances operational efficiency but also fosters a sense of accountability among industry professionals. Craig’s insights reinforced where the industry and legislation will be headed in the very near future, a reduction in chloride use.

Innovative Products for 2025

At the SIMA Symposium 2025, I had the opportunity to witness a range of new products in snow management technology. Boss’s delivered this year with a fantastic new product lineup.

First, I was impressed by their Cold Front Technology. This innovative electrical system simplifies the wiring process by eliminating the traditional 13-pin plug, allowing for seamless integration with vehicles. Coupled with the SmartTouch+ Universal Controller, the system offers an intuitive and responsive handling experience for all Cold Front plows. It transforms what could be a cumbersome operation into a smooth, effortless experience.

Another standout was Boss’s TEV Trip-Edge V-Plow. This innovative design is engineered to protect both equipment and vehicles from hidden obstacles on the road, ensuring that we are well-prepared for the challenges of harsh winter conditions. The emphasis on durability and functionality is commendable and speaks to the brand’s commitment to quality.

Additionally, Boss showcased their expanded liquid deicing solutions, which are designed with eco-friendliness in mind. These products not only enhance operational precision but also contribute to building a more sustainable snow management community. It’s clear that the industry is moving towards solutions that prioritize both effectiveness and environmental responsibility.

Hilltip’s HTrack System

One of the standout innovations I encountered this year was Hilltip’s HTrack System—a remarkable advancement in snow management that I believe is truly industry-first.

HTrack technology features two-way GPRS tracking, allowing drivers and operations teams to communicate in real time. This capability fosters a sense of teamwork that many in the industry have been seeking, especially during the demanding winter months.

I was particularly impressed by how the HTrack System monitors routes and performance seamlessly. It enables operators to stay connected and efficient, even during challenging winter storms. During the demonstration, I could see how it streamlined operations, ensuring that everyone involved was on the same page, which is crucial for effective snow management.

What made the Hilltip even more appealing as a brand was their decision to break into the plow game in North America with the SnowStriker plow series.

Networking Opportunities and Discussions

For the past two days I’ve had the privilege of connecting with a diverse group of individuals who share a similar passion for snow management. During coffee breaks and panel discussions, we engaged in conversations, sharing stories and insights that highlighted both our triumphs and challenges when it comes to the battle for winter control.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the convention was the opportunity to build connections with new contacts who truly understand the nuances of our work. These relationships, born from shared experiences, serve as a reminder that we are all in this together. The discussions ranged from operational efficiency to team building, leaving me inspired and invigorated about the future of our field.

Future of the Snow Removal Industry For 2025/2026

One of the biggest take away was how AI systems, built within snow management software such as Yeti and Jobber will change the snow & ice game for this coming season, and future seasons. These platforms are being enhanced to streamline operations and improve efficiency in snow management. It was enlightening to see how AI can analyze weather patterns and optimize route planning, ensuring that snow removal is both timely and effective.

The highlight of the convention was Boss Plows’ new product line up. I will admit I have a slight bias towards Western Plows, but Boss is really stepping up. I feel them being bought out by Toro may have something to do with it.

Networking has always been a massive part of the SIMA. Engaging with fellow attendees allowed us to share insights, discuss best practices, and explore the future of our industry. I left feeling a excited for future of Snow & Ice Management, but also for future of  Snow & Ice America, a commitment to produce even more insightful, industry-leading quality content.
